Just finished my comparative criminal law exam and am so happy to be done with that section. I mean, who goes to travel abroad to have an exam. Tonight we have a banquet and are going to sing karaoke afterward. Tomorrow we board a plane to Guiyang. Not sure what we are studying there. The program details have not been explained too much, so I am just going with it. I am happy looking back over my time in Beijing. Once my jet lag wore off and I figured out how to defeat the Chinese internet firewall I began to feel comfortable. I figured out how to ride the subway and bus. I arranged for a 5 gallon water jug to be in my room. That was a challenge pouring it into my water bottle! Alexa and I had a good laugh the first time we attempted to hold the jug and correctly aim the stream of water. I am now experienced in lifting and pouring because of course there was no type of pouring device included.
The food in Beijing has been fun and I am hoping as we go south and inland the spices will be stronger. I am getting to know the other kids in the program. We are here with students from South Dakota and Gonzaga. It is good to get to know other lawyers in case I ever need legal assistance in those states. Oh the networking cranks rolling, as an extrovert I love it! Two weeks in, I am amused at the choices in belongings I chose to bring. You never know exactly what you need and also inevitably forget something. I have done just fine without the few things I forgot and collectively, I can find someone who has whatever item I need.
Well, I will miss the Chinese students at this university and I will miss my Chinese professors. Hopefully the next school will be equally inviting and engaging. I have no reason to doubt it won’t be. In fact, we are traveling to places that receive far less foreign travelers so that will be exciting. I also hope that there will be less pollution and fewer people. May not get either, but a girl can dream.
